Spear Maiden- Agility

Description

What makes a hero? Stealth? Agility? Intelligence? Ambition? It's all of the above. But each of these characteristics can very easily be a personality of its own if isolated. I wanted to draw the embodiment of the characteristics of what makes a person a warrior, a perfect hero, a champion. Almost like if a trait could be corrupted into an elemental, and not just elements.

I also wanted to draw a series of a bunch of kick ass women. With REALISTIC armor, none of that "oh look at my sexy abs and cleavage, I'll win the battle because of your lust and not my actual skills ohhhhhh" :iconflirtplz:

A shield maiden was a female viking warrior, and typically they were a sort of guard or berserker for the warlord or whoever they were working for. A Scandinavian warrior. They were the final shield between the lord they were protecting and death. It was also a derogatory term of saying all a woman was good for was holding a shield. So I turned my kick ass, realistic, army of women into SPEAR maidens, cause all all of them are going to fight with a spear or a staff.

now, let me say, O.M.F.G. doing this one was HEEEEELLLLLLLLL ugh you guys have NO IDEA. first of all, it took about 2 or 3 weeks, which is SO unlike anything I have EVER done or want to do EVER again... usually I plow through something in 4 or 6 hours and BAM it is done. This lil.... woman.... was one of the hardest things I have ever drawn in my life. AHHHHHHH :iconexplodeplz:

So I had to redraw each of her arms like 3 times, and did the pose, and decided it was wrong so I extended the waist and had to lower EVERYTHING down, so the legs were good but had to be scapped ANYWAY, then her face was too big, so I spent forever and a half trying to correct that and deciding it was better to make the body bigger so I struggled with THAT, all the while having to redraw the curved staff so I knew where the footing would go... and then the shading in the cape took FOREVER and then those cliffs..... those cliffs.... TOOK FOREVER AND A DAY I SPENT HOURS AND HOURS ON THOSE STUPID THINGS.

ah yes, but now the wench is done and I am throwing her up on here and am happy at the fact that coloring her will me ENORMOUSLY easier than drawing her. hmph. the complaining fest is over now.

I must say I am finally happy with the result, though I wish the leg didnt blend in with the cliff.... but in the colored one that will be taken care of. Bu the way, she is Agility, in case you didn't notice. Not only is she balancing on her staff but she is catching a rather stealthy butterfly, so she had to jump on that staff quickly. Nice and balanced. all while looking pretty AND ANATOMICALLY CORRECT I SAY at the same time. Yes. The armour was sort of based off of what I imagine drow armor to be, but more feminine and less scary, a cool hood, staff kind of resembling a Dora staff, thinking nice white wood...

Thats all for now ^_^ Hope you guys like her! YOU ALL BETTER LOVE HER TO BIIIIITSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Wow, Dana. Simply amazing. I already got to see it in person, but it was unfinished then. Great work. I love everything about it - and the cliff looks awesome! =D
