Description

So I have 7389469971896487612698213889930746 other things to be doing, but OF COURSE yesterday I decided to check out the contest, and got SO INSPIRED I decided to work on this. Isn't that how it always goes? But I really really got inspired, I started sketching and conceptualizing at Starbucks and when I got home I got right to work, and all night and all day even! (well I did sleep and eat). It came pouring out! Which also was so refreshing, I have been having so much art block lately. Really, the whole process was awesome.

This is for the Last Witch Hunter contest (of course!) and I went with prologue 1, describing several witches creating huge tree-like nests growing unnaturally from the Earth, as well as a warlock atop an oceanside cliff creating storm clouds and lightning! (phew!) Such an action-packed scene immediately conjured an image with lots of movement and diagonals. I loved the idea of huge unnatural trees, as well as a crazy storm, so I just had to create a scene that included it ALL! And that is what you are looking at here. Here is quote: "Some were good. Others... were not - but there was a balance. And for a long time, the world was theirs." I also loved the balance idea, those kinds of ideas really resonate with me! I really see a balance of all the elements here: the earth, sky, fire (lightning) and water, and you can even go as far as light and dark (with the sky again!). If you can't tell, I really did have fun with this :icondragonshy2:

The three witches at the bottom right, and the itty bitty teenie weenie wizard on the top of the cliffy crag, conjuring all that yellow spell! Needless to say, now I am super excited for the movie!

I was looking through ProjectComment gallery when I found this. The first thing that came to my mind is that there's nothing to critique in here... everything looks great. You're, like, a super watercolor master.

The only thing that I was going to point has already been noticed by lu--24; the witches don't seem to have a really big role in this painting, I think I wouldn't have noticed them too fast if I hadn't read your description... that happens because their black capes don't contrast with the darker colors on the earth, and they are little, and they are in the corner of the painting, and there's just so much too look at! :happybounce: however, it was a nice surprise to see that they were there. Maybe it wasn't your intent to make them have a huge role... they may be just a part of the composition, in which case, they work well! It's one of those paintings full of little details and secrets that you are amazed to notice after spending some time looking at it. I would be intrigued by the little witches at the sand if I didn't knew the background story to this piece...

Someone mentioned impressionism and, in fact, I can get a bit of a starry-nightish feeling with those tiny spirals of blue around the yellow spell.

Oh, look at me. It seems that I wrote a huge comment when all I wanted was to tell you that you're awesome.
